After supposedly flirting with retirement over the course of the NBA offseason, Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward LeBron James has committed to playing a 21st season in the league, as he still believes he can play at a high level and give the team a chance to hang an NBA record 18th championship banner at Crypto.com Arena.
With James back in the fold for another season in Los Angeles, the future Hall of Famer will turn 39 in December and will continue to add to his legacy while being the league’s new all-time leading scorer.
As he’s on the cusp, inching closer to being 40, many people have started to question how much longer he can play at a high level in the league, as injuries have become a persistent problem for him ever since he signed with the Lakers.
After practice on Thursday in El Segundo, James gave a taste of where he’s at physically, with the four-time NBA champion throwing down a dunk as if he was 21 years old, via the team’s Twitter account.

Clearly, James can still play above the rim as he soared through the air without a problem after practice on Thursday afternoon, but it remains to be seen whether that bounce can endure another 82-game grind and a potentially deep playoff run.
As for right now, the Lakers are expected to be legitimate NBA title contenders with one of the deepest teams in the league on paper.
It’ll be interesting to see if James and Anthony Davis’ bodies can hold up over the course of the season and keep their title hopes alive.
