The Dallas Mavericks need to get back to basics to get back in this series.

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are clearly their best players, and the team will march to the beat of their drum.

Nonetheless, the supporting cast also needs to step up and take care of business.

At least, that’s how former NFL star LeSean McCoy feels.

Talking on FS1’s “Speak,” the former running back claimed that as much as the Boston Celtics deserve plenty of credit for the way they play defense, the biggest difference is that they also have several bucket-getters.

Per McCoy, even when Jayson Tatum struggles like he’s done thus far, they always have someone who can step up and get some points, whether it’s Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, or even Al Horford.

The Mavericks, on the other hand, have been a one-man show with Doncic, as Irving has been missing in action through the first two games of the series.

The Mavs also need to get P.J. Washington more involved with his corner threes, and make the most of Derrick Jones Jr.’s ability as a slasher, and even feed their big men above the rim.

It takes a team effort to get the job done in the NBA Finals, and the Mavs played as a whole unit to get to this point, so it doesn’t make sense to turn away from that at this point.

They have their backs against the wall, and it’ll be interesting to see how they respond to this challenge.
