The 2024 NBA Finals are set, and while just about everyone expected the Boston Celtics to be there, their challenger is a surprise.
For much of this season, the defending world champion Denver Nuggets looked to be the favorites to win the Western Conference, and many thought the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers also had a good chance at getting to the final round.
But it will instead be the Dallas Mavericks, who won a mere 50 games in the regular season, who will be taking on the 64-win Celtics for basketball’s grand prize.
The Celtics are strong favorites, but LeSean Mccoy said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that he feels the Mavericks actually have the edge.

McCoy’s reasoning is while the Celtics had an easy path to the championship series, Dallas has been tested on their way there.
Luka Doncic and crew have had to get past three 50-win teams to get to this point, as they had to overcome the Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Boston, on the other hand, benefitted from a number of injuries to star players back East.
The Miami Heat, their first-round opponent, was without Jimmy Butler, while Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers, their second-round opponent, wasn’t 100 percent.
Giannis Antetokounmpo was out for the Milwaukee Bucks, and the surging New York Knicks had injuries to multiple key players, resulting in an Eastern Conference Finals matchup between the Celtics and Indiana Pacers.
There, Tyrese Haliburton suffered a hamstring injury and didn’t play after Game 2, allowing the Celtics to achieve a sweep.
While the Celtics are favored over Dallas, Dallas does appear to have a path to victory, especially with the outstanding play Doncic has been putting forth.
