After dropping the first two games of the second-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets looked like they had shown their flaws and were potentially headed for a sweep against a team that seemed determined to prove its worth to the league.

Although many had started to write off the Nuggets with the Timberwolves clearly in control of this playoff series, Nikola Jokic and company turned it on as the series shifted to Minneapolis for Game 3 and Game 4, with Denver going on to win three consecutive games and taking the series lead.

The Nuggets showed why they are the defending champions as they have imposed their will on the Timberwolves over the past three games and appear destined to advance to the Western Conference Finals once again.

One player who was completely exposed in Game 5 in Denver was Ruby Gobert, the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

The veteran center had no answer for the reigning NBA MVP, as Jokic went on to drop 40 points on him while also dishing out 13 assists without a single turnover, prompting LeSean McCoy of FOX Sports to blast the Timberwolves star, via “Speak” on FS1.

“We should never have Rudy Gobert be the Defensive Player of the Year ever again,” McCoy said. “He’s the weakest link on defense!”

It’s a little harsh to say that Gobert should never be the Defensive Player of the Year again, but Jokic definitely put on a show against Gobert, which was embarrassing, to say the least, considering how powerless he was to stop the three-time MVP.

It’ll be interesting to see how Gobert comes out in Game 6 and whether he can help the Timberwolves keep their season alive.
