Over the past few weeks, there’s been a lot of talk about the running back position in the NFL and elite players at that position not getting paid what they are worth nor getting any job security on a long-term basis.

The one elite running back that made more headlines than any other for this was Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, who was unable to secure a long-term deal this summer despite coming off a career year and seeing his teammate Daniel Jones secure a massive contract.

Barkley can make a case right now as the best running back in the NFL or, at the very least, in the top three to five players in the conversation.

Jones, however, is nowhere near that conversation when it comes to quarterbacks in the NFL, and he’s set to make $160 million over the next four years, with $36 million being his signing bonus, which is three times what Barkley will make next season.

Former NFL star Le’Veon Bell doesn’t understand the logic of these contracts and believes Jones is a bottom-tier quarterback, as he told Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press.

Jones signing a deal worth that much after what he’s done in his NFL career thus far for the Giants is pretty shocking, as there’s no way that makes any sense outside of the possibility that the team didn’t want to start the process again with another quarterback.

However, it is what it is when it comes to contracts in the NFL, as quarterbacks will continue to make an enormous amount of money while running backs remain undervalued.
