For the first time in quite a while — perhaps even ever –, the Detroit Lions enter the season as a legitimate Super Bowl candidate.
Following an electrifying season in which they showed big signs of improvement, Dan Campbell’s team is now officially considered a force and one of the teams to beat in the NFC.
Notably, plenty of that has to do with the way his players have approached their preparation and their mindset about the game.
That was evident again when Safety Kerby Joseph went as far as to state that he wants to lead the league in interceptions next season (via Brad Galli).

Needless to say, he’s not particularly the most prominent name in the game, but that’s the kind of mindset you want to hear from every single one of your players, and Campbell has plenty to do with that.
The Lions’ secondary defense left something to be desired last season, but they should fare significantly better this time around.
They also have one of the best offenses in the game, featuring a plethora of playmakers and a strong offensive line, not to mention the fact that Jared Goff is also playing the best football of his career.
The NFC North Division got significantly more competitive with the new-look Chicago Bears and surging Green Bay Packers.
But even though it won’t be easy, the Lions finally have a big opportunity to reach the final game of the season and put an end to decades of struggles and shortcomings.
