The Detroit Lions surprised many in 2022, finishing the season with a 9-8 record, just missing the playoffs.
Wanting to keep this success going, the Lions have been active throughout free agency, signing marquee talent on both sides of the ball.
One of their newest additions is C.J. Gardner-Johnson, one of the league’s best cornerbacks.
However, as Lions reporter Tim Twentyman has recently highlighted, Gardner-Johnson was carted off the field with a right leg injury.
Veteran #Lions DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson went down with a right leg injury Monday & was carted off the field. He was visibly upset and team captains Buggs and Goff made it a point to go comfort him. Hoping for better news than it looked.

This could potentially be catastrophic news for the Lions’ defense, given Gardner-Johnson’s on-field greatness.
However, as Twentyman indicates, he’s hoping for better news, as the injury initially did not look great.
If Gardner-Johnson misses any games, it’ll be up to the Lions’ other cornerbacks to pick up the slack.
The Lions’ defense allowed the fourth-most points per game in 2022, giving up 25.1.
Gardner-Johnson was supposed to be a key contributor in lowering that number, giving the offense a better chance to succeed.
If he had been on the team last year, there’s no telling how much better the Lions would have been.
This news is very fresh, and up to this point, there haven’t been any significant updates to Gardner-Johnson’s situation.
Lions fans will likely be on bated breath, hoping for a positive update.
For an organization that is used to missing the playoffs, the Lions have a lot of hope for the upcoming season.
Will they be able to capitalize on their newest additions, taking over the NFC North?
