Finding good value in the NFL Draft is one of the toughest tasks there is.

But history has taught us that it doesn’t matter where you’re picked but what you do with every single chance you have to prove yourself.

That’s been the case with Amon-Ra St. Brown ever since the Detroit Lions took him in the fourth round with the No. 112 pick.

The University of Southern California product has been one of the best and most explosive wide receivers in the game for a while now, and a lot of that has had to do with his motivation and work ethic.

Notably, he manages to stay motivated by writing his goals in his notebook, but he also has a bit of an interesting technique to make sure that drive never goes away.

As he recently said on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take podcast (via Ari Meirov), he has written down the names of all 16 wide receivers that went before him in the NFL Draft, and he reads their names three times every day before practice.

He can name all 16 and where they went to college with ease.

Unsurprisingly, St. Brown can name all of them with their respective picks and the colleges they attended from the top of his head, as he’ll never allow himself to forget that.

That’s not the most orthodox way of staying focused and motivated, but whatever works, works.

St. Brown has made a name for himself and has had a better career than most of the guys who were taken before him, and his story — like many others — should motivate younger players who didn’t enter the league as highly-touted prospects.
