The Oklahoma City Thunder are set up to compete for championships for the foreseeable future as they’ve got a young and talented roster.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander looks the part of a perennial MVP candidate, though he’s also got Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren flanking him.
However, the Thunder added to the team at the onset of free agency when they sent Josh Giddey to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Alex Caruso, one of the best defenders in the league.
Oklahoma City is signaling to the rest of the NBA that it is serious about competing for a championship during the 2024-25 NBA season, though the Western Conference remains a gauntlet as it has several teams looking to accomplish the same.
The Thunder are a young team and thus could use some more veterans to help balance out the end of the roster and guide the locker room.
Unfortunately for the organization, the veteran big man Mike Muscala announced he is retiring from basketball via Joel Lorenzi of Oklahoman Sports.
“Mike Muscala is retiring,” Lorenzi reported.

Muscala, originally a second round pick by the Dallas Mavericks, is most known for his time with the Thunder where he spent four seasons with them from 2019-2023.
From there, Muscala bounced around the league as a big man who could space the floor though he ultimately found himself back with Oklahoma City to end last year.
While not a huge loss for the Thunder who are set in the front court, it would behoove them to find someone who can replace Muscala’s outside shooting.
