It has been a good offseason to be an NFL quarterback, as signal-callers around the league have gotten jaw-dropping paydays to serve as their team’s franchise guy for years to come.
There has been a lot of discussion about whether or not some of these quarterbacks are worth the money given to them, based on how extreme some of these numbers have gotten, and ESPN analyst Louis Riddick is speaking up for the one who has been perhaps the most scrutinized.
On a recent episode of “First Take,” the former NFL defensive back came to the defense of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who recently signed a four-year, $212.4 million extension.
“Tua has earned this contract,” Riddick said.

Riddick praised Tagovailoa for leading the league in passing yards last season, proving he can be durable, and consistently making difficult throws behind an offensive line that suffered a slew of injuries.
“When they win, it’s Tyreek [Hill], when they lose, it’s Tua,” Riddick added. “They get bludgeoned for 150 yards on the ground, Tua should’ve been out there playing linebacker. They don’t run the football, why didn’t Tua run the football? It’s like it’s always his fault.”
Tagovailoa did have a career year last season and now has the belief of his entire organization and his offense. If he continues on that trajectory, he will silence a lot of the doubters who didn’t believe he was worth this new contract.
