Luis Arraez has had a season to remember up to this point.

After winning the American League batting title last season with the Minnesota Twins, Arraez was traded to the Miami Marlins in exchange for right-hander Pablo Lopez.

So far, it appears as though the Marlins have received the better end of the deal.

Arraez is currently hitting for a .400 average.

If he is still hitting .400 or better by the end of Tuesday’s game, that will be through the Marlins’ first 74 games of the season, which would be the second-longest into a season that a player has hit .400 or better since 2000.

In that regard, Arraez would trail only Boston Red Sox legend Nomar Garciaparra, who was hitting .400 after the team’s first 91 games in the 2000 season, as the tweet below courtesy of ESPN points out.

If Luis Arraez is hitting .400 after tonight’s game against Toronto, that will be through Miami’s 74th game this season – the 2nd-longest into a season a player has hit .400 since 2000.

Arraez has a chance to join some historic company.

The Marlins star has picked up right where he left off a season ago, while also helping catapult the Marlins to postseason contention for the first time since 2020.

Arraez is reaching base at a .450 clip and has posted an OPS of .941 through the Marlins’ first 73 games.

Garciaparra’s run in 2000 was certainly impressive, but Arraez is in a position to potentially tie or pass that mark if he continues his hot stretch.

He’ll be second to Garciaparra if he manages to keep has average at or above .400 by the end of Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Despite not possessing much power, Arraez has proven to be one of the best pure hitters in all of baseball.

His consistency has led him to this point, and he has put himself in a position to make some history.
