As arguably one of the best players in the NBA today, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks gets a lot of attention on and off the floor, with a fair share of criticism sprinkled in due to his lackluster defense.
No one doubts Doncic’s ability on the offensive end of the court, as an argument could be made that he’s the league’s elite offensive player, with the ability to score from anywhere at any time.
Unfortunately, Doncic’s defense is sorely lacking, and most put him in the category among the worst in the league defensively when it comes to superstar players.
It has become a trend in the NBA today to go all out on offense and take a backseat defensively, and Doncic admits to doing just that even though he admits he needs to improve on that end of the basketball floor, according to ClutchPoints via NBA Central.
Luka Doncic speaks out on his poor defense
“I’ve been playing basketball for 3 straight years. 4 weeks in between it was free. Sometimes it’s really hard for me to play really hard on both ends. But obviously, the defensive end I gotta be way better.”

The Mavericks are headed toward a disappointing end to the 2022-23 NBA season, with Dallas potentially on the outside looking in on the playoffs after reaching the Western Conference Finals last year.
Doncic may have teamed up with fellow superstar Kyrie Irving in Dallas after a blockbuster trade before the NBA trade deadline, but the new partnership hasn’t worked out as planned, leading many to believe the Mavericks newcomer could leave this summer.
As for Doncic, the future remains uncertain as Dallas can’t seem to find the right players to put around the Slovenian superstar.
The Jalen Brunson experiment worked as well as it could of, but he left the team in NBA free agency to play for the New York Knicks.
