The Dallas Mavericks find themselves down 0-1 in the 2024 NBA Finals after dropping Game 1 to the Boston Celtics.
Dallas fell behind early in the first quarter as they had no answers for Boston’s offense and could never catch back up in the game despite a strong Finals debut from Luka Doncic.
Doncic recorded 30 points and 10 rebounds in Game 1, though it wasn’t enough as the Celtics defense stifled the rest of the Mavericks.
The superstar guard has been on a tear during the 2024 NBA Playoffs, though he hasn’t been completely healthy as he’s had to gut through multiple injuries.
Doncic has been seen visibly struggling to get up and down the floor in certain stretches, though it hasn’t exactly prevented him from producing on the floor.
However, it appears that he’s added another ailment to his list of injuries as he is reportedly dealing with a back issue ahead of Game 2 via Grant Afseth.
“Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic has an additional injury listed and was downgraded to questionable for Game 2 of the NBA Finals. New: Thoracic contusion Also: Right knee sprain Also: Left ankle soreness Doncic was not on the court during the open portion of shootaround,” Afseth reported.

Although Doncic is listed as questionable, it’s hard to imagine that he’ll be held out of a pivotal Game 2 that Dallas needs to win to give themselves a shot at climbing back into the series.
However, it is concerning that he’s got a new injury after the lower leg injuries, a sign that all the minutes and heavy usage are catching up to him.
