The Dallas Mavericks started the season as a bit of a wild card.
Everybody knew they had the potential to be an offensive force, as Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic are two of the most talented and dominant offensive players in the game.
However, their defense wasn’t all the way there yet, but some moves ahead of the trade deadline turned the ship around.
Now, the Mavs look like a legitimate dark horse to come out of the Western Conference, and a lot of that has to do with their franchise star.
As pointed out by NBA TV, Doncic currently averages the second-highest points-rebounds-assists per game totals in NBA history, trailing only the legendary Wilt Chamberlain.

Luka averages 45.6 (28.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game), while Wilt averaged 57.4 (30.1 points, 22.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game).
Every time you’re in the same sentence with Chamberlain, you know you’re doing good things, and Doncic is doing great things right now.
This season, he averaged a league-high 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game.
However, as impressive as his campaign has been, he’s not currently the frontrunner to win MVP.
Nikola Jokic is likely to get his third MVP award, and some believe he should’ve had four in a row by now.
Doncic will have to aim for a different and bigger distinction this time instead.
He’s well on pace to become the greatest player in franchise history, but to get ahead of Dirk Nowitzki, he’ll have to replicate what he did first and lead this team to an NBA championship.
