Heading into the NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks proved to be one of the most resilient teams in the league during the NBA playoffs, with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving firing on all cylinders and looking like they could beat anyone in a best-of-seven series.

That said, the Mavericks had a lot of confidence going into the NBA Finals to face arguably the best team in the league in the Boston Celtics, who had lost only two games throughout the postseason thus far.

With the Mavericks upsetting every opponent they faced in the playoffs, from the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round to the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the second and finally, Anthony Edwards’ Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals, Dallas was thought to have at least a fighting chance against Boston.

Unfortunately, Jason Kidd’s squad has struggled during the first two games of the season and now faces a 0-2 deficit as a result heading into Game 3 in Dallas, with Doncic thinking he knows what the problem is for his team, according to Jay King of The Athletic.

“I think our defense is not doing bad, but we just can’t score,” Doncic said.

He said he believes the Mavericks have gotten some good looks and he trusts the role players will knock down shots.

The offense was never a problem for the Mavericks throughout the first three rounds as Doncic and Irving were able to lift the team up on that end of the basketball floor, but in the Finals, the league’s leading scorer has been the only one hitting shots, and it has hurt the team tremendously.

If the Mavericks can start hitting some shots outside of Doncic, Dallas might have a chance to turn this series around while at home for the next two games at American Airlines Center.
