When longtime offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels decided to leave the New England Patriots in favor of becoming the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, Bill Belichick and company didn’t have a plan in place to replace him and felt they could make it work without an offensive coordinator during the 2022 NFL season.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, that turned out to be a bad move, with the offense going from decent with a promising young quarterback leading the way to an absolute mess with Mac Jones looking like he took a few steps back rather than progressing after a Pro-Bowl rookie season.

In order to correct the mistake the coaching staff made last year, the Patriots brought in a familiar face in Bill O’Brien, and it already appears to be paying off, with Jones saying he’s already on the same page with the new offensive coordinator, via ProFootballTalk.

Jones seems to like O’Brien’s down-to-earth approach as he said he’s “super real” and a “straight-up guy” in his interview with Albert Breer of SI.com, which is obviously a great sign for the Patriots, as the team tries to get back on track offensively.

It will be a make-or-break year for the Patriots in the post-Tom Brady era in New England, with talk of Belichick potentially coaching for his job.

Unfortunately for Belichick, the competition will be tougher than ever in the AFC East division now that Aaron Rodgers is leading the way for the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins appear to be the real deal under Mike McDaniel, along with the talented Buffalo Bills.
