After blowing a 10-point lead and losing last season’s Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles have been eager to get onto the field and start what they hope will be their road toward redemption.
They will begin their 2023 regular season at Gillette Stadium versus the New England Patriots, a team that may seem somewhat mediocre on paper but must be taken seriously.
Patriots quarterback Mac Jones paid a big compliment to Philly by saying that the Eagles have the best defensive line in the NFL and that his team will be going up “against a bunch of beasts,” per NFL.com.

That defensive line is led by ends Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat and veteran defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, who is a six-time Pro Bowler.
Philly lost stud defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to the San Francisco 49ers in free agency during the offseason, but taking his place will be first-round draft pick Jalen Carter.
While at the University of Georgia, Carter was named to the All-SEC team in 2021 while helping the Bulldogs win the national championship against the University of Alabama that season.
The Eagles finished second in total yards allowed last season, and one shouldn’t expect much, if any, of a drop-off this season.
Most feel they’re the favorites to win the NFC again, but the 49ers and the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys will have something to say about that.
After all, it is rare for a team to lose in the Super Bowl and make it back there the following season, let alone to win the world championship in that following season.
