Training camp is well underway for the Las Vegas Raiders.

This is a time for fringe players to make their case for a roster spot, along with giving veterans a chance to reestablish chemistry with their teammates.

One of the Raiders’ star players, Josh Jacobs, is notably absent from training camp.

After being franchise-tagged but not extended by the team, Jacobs has refused to attend team activities.

Several analysts and former players have publically supported Jacobs, including former Raider Marcus Allen.

Per ESPN reporter Paul Gutierrez, Allen indicated that he’s aware of what Jacobs is going through and that he’s been there before.

He also pointed out that, to him, running the ball is still a massive part of the game.

The NFL regular season begins in less than a month.

If the Raiders want Jacobs to play, they’ll have to agree with him, likely signing him to a new contract.

Without it, Jacobs is likely to sit out, given his continued absence at practice.

He was the NFL’s leading rusher last season.

If he doesn’t report to practice before the season starts, the Raiders could begin the year at a distinct disadvantage.

The Raiders are in the AFC West, one of the most difficult divisions in the league.

Many believe without Jacobs, the Raiders have no shot at winning the division.

Jimmy Garoppolo is their new quarterback, and his impact on this roster remains to be seen.

Having Jacobs in the backfield would provide the needed stability that the team is seeking.
