In late July, the offense-starved Milwaukee Brewers called the New York Mets about one of their outfielders: Mark Canha.

The Mets, who traded lots of players before the deadline, were open for business and sent Canha to Milwaukee in exchange for pitcher Justin Jarvis.

It was a deal that few people actually talked about, but ended up having a huge impact on the Brewers’ season.

Canha, scheduled to hit free agency, went to Twitter to thank the Brewers organization.

“Just wanted to say to the entire @Brewers organization thank you for bringing me on board this year! My family and I are so grateful for the last two months in making a playoff run and getting to know this wholesome, beautiful city!!” he tweeted.

Milwaukee couldn’t quite compete with the Arizona Diamondbacks and were eliminated from the playoffs in the Wild Card round.

However, that doesn’t make Canha’s acquisition a bad one.

To the contrary, he rose up to the occasion in a Brewers uniform.

In 89 games with the Mets, he accumulated a .725 OPS, but in 50 games with the Brew Crew, he posted a .800 mark with five homers and 10 doubles.

He even chipped in four steals for good measure.

Overall, he had a .755 OPS, 11 home runs, and 25 doubles this year between the two squads, and he will be taking those numbers to the open market.

A return to Milwaukee shouldn’t be ruled out, but the 34-year-old outfielder should have several other options and will likely choose the best situation for him and his family.
