The Dallas Mavericks have some tough decisions to make this offseason.
Somehow they went from making the Western Conference Finals in 2022 to missing the playoffs in 2023.
One of the major moves they made this past season was trading for point guard Kyrie Irving.
But he is an unrestricted free agent and many are unsure if Irving will come back to Dallas.
Yet, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban fully intends on bringing Irving back.
According to Callie Caplan, via NBACentral, Cuban said, “We want to sign him, and hopefully he wants to come back.”
“We want to sign him, and hopefully he wants to come back. I’m not going to handicap anymore. I learned my lesson last year.”

Cuban also mentioned, “I learned my lesson last year,” when referring to letting a key free agent leave.
The Mavs were unable to re-sign Jalen Brunson last offseason and now he is thriving in New York.
Irving has been a tough player to understand for many years.
He struggles to stay healthy and it seems like he is always looking for a new place to play.
It would surprise no one if he decides to not re-sign in Dallas.
But at least Mavs fans know that their owner will do whatever is necessary to bring him back.
The Mavericks need another star opposite Luka Doncic.
Irving certainly fits that role and he and Doncic would be one of the strongest backcourts in the West.
Many people thought Irving was hoping to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.
But it appears that the Lakers will not have the cap space to afford him.
Ultimately, once free agency begins many teams will be jostling to land the All-Star point guard.
