Led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks put an end to a five-decade NBA championship drought back in 2021.
After making the playoffs as the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, they swept the Miami Heat in the first round.
Then, they went against the Brooklyn Nets’ juggernaut featuring the likes of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
The Nets went up 2-1 before Giannis accidentally stepped on Irving’s ankle, forcing him to miss the remainder of the series.
With that in mind, Markieff Morris recently claimed that Giannis would’ve still been ringless if it wasn’t for that play.
He doubled down on that by stating that everybody on the Bucks also knows that, adding that they would’ve gotten swept (via NBACentral).
Markieff Morris says Giannis Antetokounmpo would still be ringless if he hadn’t injured Kyrie Irving

Well, for starters, a sweep wasn’t possible in the first place because they had already won a game, but that’s still a valid point nonetheless.
Even without Kyrie, Durant was almost able to single-handedly lead the team to the next round, and if his shoe hadn’t been on the line in a huge late-game shot, he would’ve actually beaten the Bucks.
Then again, Milwaukee still had plenty of work to do after that series, first going against the Atlanta Hawks and then taking care of business vs. the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Finals.
The NBA is full of hypotheticals and what-ifs.
At the end of the day, teams can only play whoever’s in front of them, and we’re always an unfortunate turn of events from league history changing forever.
