Marlins Insider Explains Surprising Eury Perez Decision

The Miami Marlins continue to outperform their expectations this year.

Not many people thought they could be a playoff team, let alone leading the NL Wild Card race.

But, due to a few breakout seasons, their players are keeping the Fish in contention.

One player that started the season in the minor leagues but is having a great year is Eury Perez.

He was the Marlins’ top pitching prospect and one of the top prospects in baseball.

For them to stay atop the Wild Card standings, Perez needs to be on the mound every fifth day.

Well, it appears the Marlins are more concerned with limiting his innings over him helping them win this year.

According to Craig Mish, the Marlins have sent Perez back to the minor leagues to limit his innings.

They hope to bring him back up later in the season.

Perez is only 20 years old and he has just surpassed his career high in innings pitched.

It makes sense that the Marlins want to take it easy on him.

But it is just unfortunate that he can not remain in the big league rotation.

Due to the struggles of Sandy Alcantara this season, the Marlins have been looking for other pitchers to step up.

That is what Perez has done along with Jesus Luzardo and Braxton Garrett.

The Fish have a strong rotation and it only gets that much better with Perez in it.

If they can find their way into the playoffs, this will be a team that not many people want to face due to their pitching staff.
