On Monday, the Boston Red Sox fell short in a wild game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The final was 7-6 as the Red Sox dropped Game 1 of the three-game set.
However, that doesn’t mean that Monday was devoid of any excitement.
In fact, newly signed outfielder and slugger Masataka Yoshida busted out the lumber on Monday night.
With the Red Sox trailing the Pirates 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning, Yoshida hit one the other way that just barely cleared the Green Monster and tied the game at three.
On Twitter, MLB posted a video of Yoshida’s first career home run.

Yoshida is one of many reasons that the Red Sox could be a surprise contender in 2023.
The team was dealt some significant blows during the offseason when Xander Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez departed via free agency.
But the additions of Yoshida, Justin Turner, and Adam Duvall should help their offense.
So far, the addition of Yoshida has paid dividends.
Red Sox fans have already fallen in love with the slugger and are excited to watch him play each day.
And he certainly gave them a big reason to be excited on Monday with his game-tying home run.
The loss dropped the Red Sox to 2-2 on the season and into a two-way third-place tie with the Orioles.
Fortunately, Yoshida is swinging a hot bat and is on pace to do some damage in 2023 as the Red Sox try and prove the naysayers wrong and make a return trip to the postseason.
