Replacing Tom Brady wasn’t expected to be easy.

The New England Patriots tried to replace him with Mac Jones, but after only a few years, it was made clear that he wasn’t the team’s long-term answer at QB.

Perhaps Drake Maye will be better for the organization, but now that Jones has moved on, it could be beneficial for both parties.

One of Jones’ former teammates, Matthew Judon, recently appeared on the “Shut Up Marc Podcast,” where he talked about Jones’ time with the team, and what might have gone wrong.

“I feel like Mac had a hard go… Mac was the Post-Tom Era. It really wasn’t Cam Newton… It was COVID year. Y’all cared about football but y’all ain’t cared that much,” Judon said.

He also pointed out the fact that the Patriots had a revolving door of offensive coordinators, which tends to prove difficult for young players trying to learn how to play in the NFL.

Jones could have fallen victim to that, but at the end of the day, the Patriots needed to do what they felt was best for the organization.

No matter how much his teammates liked or disliked him, Jones was a part of this team.

It might have not worked out, as Judon mentioned, but it was a tough environment for anyone to come into, especially a young player who had a lot to learn.

With a new head coach and starting quarterback heading into 2024, the Patriots could have yet another tough season if things don’t go their way.
