The New England Patriots are a team with a rich history of winning.
From 2001-2019, the Patriots had a stretch of winning seasons including six Super Bowl titles.
Most of the credit for that run goes to Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, and rightfully so.
But other Patriots players helped lead the team to that success as well.
One player who has always flown under the radar is Matthew Slater.
That is because of his role as a special teams player.
Slater never made an impact on offense or defense, but he was always recognized for his special teams ability.
Across his 16-year career, Slater made the Pro Bowl 10 times and won three Super Bowls.
According to NFL on CBS, he joins a list of four other men with at least 10 Pro Bowls and 3+ Super Bowl wins.
One player joining Slater on this list is his former teammate Tom Brady.

It is rare for a special teams player to have this big of an impact throughout his career.
Slater was a key leader on the Patriots’ Super Bowl teams.
Slater was a fan favorite in New England.
He was one of their most consistent players and always showed up when called upon.
While his role on the field may not have been large, what he brought to the team was invaluable.
He was one of their team captains and you can bet he will be missed in their locker room.
Most people cannot name any core special teamers around the league.
But, Slater stands out for his excellence and longevity.
