Facing a 3-0 series deficit, the Dallas Mavericks found a way to extend the 2024 NBA Finals as they dominated the Boston Celtics in Game 4, 122-84, to force a Game 5 back on the road.
The Mavericks made a valiant comeback effort in Game 3 but fell short in the fourth quarter after Luka Doncic fouled out in the closing minutes.
However, Doncic made amends in Game 4 as he dropped a game-high 29 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Kyrie Irving built on the momentum he created in Game 3 as he supported Doncic with 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field despite only going 1-of-6 from the 3-point line.
Defensively, Dallas was much better at staying in front of their assigned man which led to better rotations on the backend.
The Mavericks showed great resiliency in Game 4 and even made NBA Finals history with their win, via ESPN Bet.
“Largest Wins in NBA Finals History. 1998: Bulls +42 vs. Jazz; 2008: Celtics +39 vs. Lakers; 2024: Mavericks +38 vs. Celtics; Dallas is +230 in a do or die Game 5,” they tweeted.

It was quite the performance from a Dallas team that looked dead in the water in Game 3, and now they at least have some positive energy for Game 5.
While the victory was impressive, odds are still against the Mavericks to win the Finals as no team in NBA postseason history has ever come back from a 3-0 series deficit.
The Celtics have also played extremely well at home and coming off a loss will be extra motivated to close things out.
However, Doncic and Irving still give Dallas a shot as they’re the most talented offensive players on both sides.
