The Dallas Mavericks headed into this NBA offseason with the team determined to surround superstar Luka Doncic with as much talent as possible in order for the franchise to bounce back from a forgettable 2022-23 campaign.
The team’s top priority was signing superstar guard Kyrie Irving to a long-term contract extension, and Mark Cuban and company were able to do exactly that, ending any speculation about the one-time NBA champion’s departure from Dallas.
Dallas was also able to address the defensive end of the basketball floor, with the Mavericks bringing in former Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams.
Although these two moves alone make the Mavericks better moving forward, Dallas still needs a move or two to really turn heads around the league, and that move might be going after Clint Capela of the Atlanta Hawks.
According to Marc Stein, the Mavericks want to make a run at acquiring Capela via NBA Central.

The Hawks are in a similar situation in comparison to the Mavericks, as the team wasn’t able to live up to expectations last season and has been busy trying to put talent around Trae Young and Dejounte Murray.
Atlanta recently traded forward John Collins to the Utah Jazz after years of speculation about the team wanting to move him, as they felt he wasn’t a great fit next to Young in Atlanta.
With both teams active and wanting to make a giant leap forward next season, it’ll be interesting to see if trade talks heat up involving Capela and if a deal can come to fruition before the start of the 2023-24 season.
