New York Mets ace Max Scherzer was issued a 10-game suspension for having what umpires believed was a foreign substance on his hand during a start against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
On Wednesday, he made his return against his old team, the Detroit Tigers.
However, his return to Comerica Park did not go according to plan.
The veteran right-hander lasted just 3.1 innings and allowed six runs on eight hits while walking a batter and giving up two home runs.
He also struck out three batters.
On Twitter, Bob Nightengale of USA Today posted Scherzer’s numbers from his start against his former team.
Max Scherzer’s 1st start after his suspension for using a foreign substance:
3.1 innings
8 hits
6 earned runs
1 walk

It’s safe to say that Scherzer’s start did not go as he or the Mets had planned.
So far, Scherzer’s season has been a disappointing one.
He has two wins in five starts, but he owns an uncharacteristic 5.56 ERA.
The eight-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young Award Winner missed a good chunk of the 2022 season as he recovered from an oblique injury.
But he finished the season 11-5 with a 2.29 ERA in 23 starts in his first year with the Mets.
This season, however, has been uncharacteristically rough for the Mets ace.
New York signed him to a three-year, $130 million contract before the MLB lockout in 2021.
Injuries and inconsistencies have plagued him during his Mets tenure, however.
And his start against the Tigers on Wednesday was yet another tough outing for the 38-year-old.
The Mets have now lost eight of their last 10 games and sit just one game over the .500 mark.
