The New York Mets have gotten off to a slow start this season.

That is due to a mixture of poor hitting and inconsistent pitching.

But, one player who continues to do what he does best is first baseman Pete Alonso.

Alonso has always been looked at as one of the best power hitters in baseball.

That is once again the case this year as he is leading MLB in home runs with 16.

His raw power is elite, and he can get hot at a moment’s notice.

Facing the Tampa Bay Rays for a three-game series, the Mets needed Alonso’s bat.

He came through blasting a home run in all three of the games.

The Mets Twitter account even posted a video of all three homers.

The bat of Alonso played a large role in the Mets’ series win against MLB’s best team.

New York has a record of 22-23 on the season.

They are six games behind the Atlanta Braves for first place in the NL East.

Still, the Mets have the talent to make a push for the top spot in the division.

Alonso is on pace to set a career-high in home runs.

He hit 53 in his rookie season but has a chance to surpass that number this year.

The Mets have been inconsistent at the plate so far this season.

They have been shut out seven times which should not happen to a team with that much talent.

Luckily for New York, there is still a long season ahead of them with plenty of time to turn it around.
