The New York Mets have had a season to forget up to this point.

After winning 101 games and reaching the postseason for the first time since 2016 last year, things have taken a turn for the worst.

The Mets ultimately reversed course and were sellers at the trade deadline.

Owner Steve Cohen has made very clear that he intends to hire a president of baseball operations.

On Wednesday, Mets General Manager Billy Eppler spoke with Joel Sherman of the New York Post to discuss what that may look like and how it impacts the direction of the team, as well as his status within the organization going forward.

Here Billy Eppler answers the David Stearns/his future question on “The Show.” Also explains deadline reasoning, Baty, Mauricio, more. I dive into the Yankees and Orioles broadcast-gate.

Eppler believes that this ultimately will not change his status within the organization and that he’ll have an opportunity to share his input, even if a president of baseball operations is hired.

Eppler said he knew that this was a possibility before he took the job as the general manager.

The Mets have for a time been looking into David Stearns, who recently stepped away from his position as president of baseball operations for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Eppler says that he is fully in favor of a chance to potentially enhance the Mets front office.

He also shared his goal for the Mets going forward, revealing that he plans on helping the organization build a sustainable winning culture.

The Mets had a busy offseason and were hoping to achieve that, but it is clear that the direction has changed.

Still, Eppler remains committed to helping improve the Mets for the future.
