The New York Mets have had a rough week, to say the least.
They are fourth in their division, they have dropped eight of their last 10 and they are 10 games below .500 at 23-33.
They also endured the Jorge Lopez saga, the loss of Edwin Diaz to a right shoulder impingement, and now two painful demotions.
According to MLB insider Jeff Passan, the Mets have optioned right-handed pitcher Christian Scott to Triple-A Syracuse.
Per the notable news-breaker, the organization is also sending down third baseman Brett Baty.
“News: The New York Mets are sending right-hander Christian Scott and third baseman Brett Baty to Triple-A, sources tell ESPN,” he wrote.

The Scott demotion is particularly surprising.
After dominating Triple-A, the young righty posted a 3.90 ERA in five starts with the Mets.
His 25 strikeouts against just six walks speak volumes about how dominant he was.
However, Passan states that the team just wants to take advantage of some days off after the London series to manage his workload.
The reporter suggested that Scott should be back with the Mets relatively soon.
He has been one of the Mets’ best starters in recent games and it would make little sense to keep him down for long.
Baty, on the other hand, has been sent down due to performance.
He is hitting .225/.304/.325 and has failed to take a strong hold of the hot corner.
Recently, New York has found more success with Mark Vientos at the position.
Sending down Baty and Scott allowed the organization to call up shortstop Jose Iglesias.
They also added catcher Luis Torrens via trade with the New York Yankees and designated Omar Narvaez for assignment.
