The New York Mets have had a terrible season.
After winning 101 games last season, the Mets have been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this year.
But, one player who continues to produce is first baseman Pete Alonso.
He is once again having a strong season having hit 41 home runs and driven in 100 runs.
Alonso shows up and plays every day, even though the Mets are already out of the playoff picture.
Mets manager Buck Showalter had strong words about the attitude Alonso brings to the locker room each day.
According to SNY, Showalter said: “He’s special. Through thick and thin, we know one thing and that’s that Pete will walk through the door the same guy every day.”
“He’s special. Through thick and thin, we know one thing and that’s that Pete will walk through the door the same guy every day… he cares about his teammates and he cares about the Mets”

Alonso has been the most consistent player for the Mets over the past five seasons.
He has three years of 40+ homers and 100+ RBIs.
Alonso has proven to be one of the best power hitters in baseball.
Yet, the Mets have had talks about trading him this offseason.
Alonso has been brought up in potential trade talks as the Mets look toward the future.
This awful season has done a number on the entire Mets organization.
But, it would be a mistake to move Alonso.
He represents the Mets in the right way and is deserving of a contract extension.
If the Mets are not going to keep a player like Alonso, it will tell their fanbase that winning is not the most important thing.
