In MLB, general managers and owners are often protective of their players and managers.

When things go south, they usually aren’t too direct when pointing fingers and say things like “we win as a team and lose as a team”, or that “everybody has a share of the blame.”

Well, that’s not the case of Steve Cohen, owner of the New York Mets.

His Mets are fourth in the NL East with a mediocre 50-57 record.

He is understandably disappointed at that, as are the vast majority of fans.

However, things happen over a long season, and the competition also plays.

There are lots of good teams beside the Mets.

In any case, Cohen threw his players under the bus in his latest remarks.

“Steve Cohen covered many topics in a state of the team session today. Among them: He hinted that Buck Showalter will be back as Mets manager but stopped short of guaranteeing it. ‘I don’t put it on Buck,’ Cohen said of the team’s record. ‘I put it on the players,’” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted.

Again, Cohen is not entirely wrong: the players are the ones who hit, field, pitch, and run.

However, it’s unusual to see an owner blaming his players with so little hesitation.

Unlike Cohen states, however, Showalter does deserve some of the blame, too.

Everybody is to blame, including the general manager and the owner to some extent.

They were the ones that put together the team to begin with, so they should also show some accountability.
