The Los Angeles Lakers shocked the world with their reported decision to go after UConn’s Dan Hurley.
Most people thought they would go with JJ Redick, yet they will reportedly try to lure Hurley away from Connecticut after back-to-back collegiate championships.
Apparently, the Lakers have been quite impressed with the program he’s built in college, and they believe he can replicate that level of success in the pros.
With that in mind, Jim Rome asked Denver Nuggets coach Mike Malone his thoughts on this potential signing, and he was very honest about it.

He started by tipping his hat to the Hurley family, revealing that they go way back and that he had nothing but respect for what they’ve accomplished within basketball.
Then, he claimed that there was absolutely no reason to believe Hurley wouldn’t be a great coach in the NBA, praising him as a tactician and the identity he’s established on both ends of the floor for the Huskies.
He acknowledged that it might take some time to adjust to the NBA, the long schedule, the rules, the referees, and even the fact that you’re playing quarters instead of two halves.
Other than that, he thinks that with the way he builds relationships with his players and his tactical skills, he should do just fine in the league.
Just like the players, all coaches entering the league must adapt to the pros, but Hurley is a great basketball mind with a proven record of success, and that’s all that matters.
