One doesn’t need to be a basketball savant to realize that the Denver Nuggets’ championship wasn’t a fluke.

Some could argue that they had an easy path to the NBA Finals — which would be a fake assessment — and that the Miami Heat were no match to them, but they still dominated every single rival they faced.

They were also dominant throughout the course of the regular season, making the most of their natural home-court advantage and taking down some championship-contending teams on the road as well.

Notably, they’ll have most of their championship-winning core under contract for the next couple of years.

And with Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray just entering their primes, coach Mike Malone believes they have the potential to become a dynasty.

Needless to say, those are some strong words for any team, and perhaps it’s not the coach’s place to say that.

They still need to at least win back-to-back titles to even enter the conversation, and chances are that some rival fans, players, and even colleagues didn’t take those comments too lightly.

But the Nuggets do have the makings of a potential dynasty.

They have their three best players under contract for more years, they’re entering their prime, and the rest of the league still needs to figure out how to stop Jokic, and it might take a while before that happens — assuming it happens.

Next year’s title run will be tougher, though, as everyone will be aiming for their crown.

But that’s when they need to put their money where their mouth is.
