Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera continues his farewell tour.

The Tigers are nine games behind the AL Central leader and 13 games back in the Wild Card race, so they are not going anywhere this season.

Still, fans who have supported the team and gone to the stadium have seen a legend of the game for at least one last time before he retires after the 2023 campaign.

Cabrera hasn’t had a particularly good season, but he keeps accumulating hits and strengthening his already solid Hall-of-Fame case.

“Another knock, another milestone. 3,142 moves Miggy into a tie for 19th with Robin Yount on @MLB‘s all-time hits list,” the Tigers tweeted.

Only 18 hitters have more hits in the history of the game than Cabrera: he tied Milwaukee Brewers legend Robin Yount for 19th on the all-time list.

If you want exclusivity, then look at this: only three players in MLB have at least 3,000 hits with a .300 batting average and 500 home runs.

Cabrera is one of them, together with Hank Aaron and Willie Mays.

Oh, and he also won a hitting Triple Crown in the American League, two MVP awards, and a World Series.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Cabrera is slashing .307/.383/.520 with 508 home runs, 620 doubles, and 1,864 RBI.

He should be a first-ballot Hall of Famer five years from now, and there isn’t any reason why he can’t be a unanimous selection.

He probably won’t because some voters opt to be the center of attention themselves, but he deserves the recognition.
