Mikal Bridges is coming to the New York Knicks and that means it’s time for a new jersey number.

It only makes sense that he switches to the number he wore in college and it’s being reported by Etienne Catalan and others that Bridges is doing just that.

Bridges announced that he is changing to No. 25 instead of No. 1, which is what he wore during his time with the Brooklyn Nets.

The number was last worn by Mamadi Diakité in 2024.

No. 25 holds a special place in Bridges’ heart because it’s the number he wore during his time at Villanova.

He also wore it when he was with the Phoenix Suns but changed to No. 1 when he headed to Brooklyn.

Choosing No. 25 is a reference to his college career and he will be playing with several of his Villanova peers.

Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo all played with Bridges in college and the group has now gotten back together.

Bridges just averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists for the Nets and proved that he’s a talented star worthy of a talented team.

After years of being a supporting role in Phoenix and playing for a subpar team in Brooklyn, Bridges now has the chance to shine his brightest in New York.

He will be with some old friends, playing for an esteemed and accomplished coach, and suiting up with a team that showed a ton of promise last season, including in the playoffs.

He already has a ton of motivation to play well but perhaps wearing his old jersey number will give Bridges even more.
