The Sacramento Kings made a big splash in free agency by getting one of the most sought-after players on the market.
DeMar DeRozan is finally heading back to his home state, about six hours north of the place where he was born and raised.
Nonetheless, he’s not there just for the nostalgia.
Kings coach Mike Brown believes he’s a seamless fit for their system and what they do.
Talking during the Summer League, the former Coach of the Year talked about how DeRozan’s ability to pick apart multiple defenses and still be a productive scorer should open up plenty of things on offense for his team.
Here’s Mike Brown’s full NBA TV interview from SL with notable quotes on the addition of DeRozan, reasons for their defensive improvement, Devin Carter, Keon Ellis’ development, and more.

He also cited the importance of DeRozan when it came to running dribble handoffs, pick-and-roll, and bringing the ball up in transition, as those will all be a big part of the Kings’ offense as well.
Truth be told, DeRozan’s fit next to De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis could be somewhat questionable.
Fox has made strides as a three-point shooter, but that hasn’t been the main part of his game, so there could be some spacing issues there.
Then again, DeRozan is a savvy scorer and a guy who’s much better at making plays for others than the average guard/forward, and the Kings should have three elite playmakers at their respective positions on the court when he’s out there.
Now, whether his addition will be enough to get them to the next level and turn into a championship contender remains to be seen.
