The 2024 NBA Finals matchup is set as the Dallas Mavericks will take on the Boston Celtics in a little less than a week.
The Celtics had the easiest path of any team to get to the Finals as they lucked out with injuries to several star players throughout their run through the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks had to play several tough opponents in the L.A. Clippers, Denver Nuggets, and Minnesota Timberwolves to earn their chance to play for the championship.
There are several storylines to watch out for in this year’s final round as one of the league’s youngest superstars will earn their first championship ring.
Luka Doncic versus Jayson Tatum is an exciting star matchup, while Kyrie Irving facing off against his old team is an interesting subplot of its own.
However, people like Mike Francesca believe that the delayed start to the Finals will only hurt the NBA’s ratings, via his podcast.
“The NBA Finals will begin in a week, which is a disaster for the NBA,” he said on “The Mike Francesa Podcast” on Friday.
The Conference Finals weren’t very dramatic as Boston swept Indiana while Dallas took care of Minnesota in five games, leaving a week-long timeframe between games.
The NBA scheduled the Finals in advance to make it easier logistically for teams, their broadcast partners, and other parties, though it does hurt the fan experience as people became accustomed to seeing hoops every night.
Francesca could very well be proven right once the Finals start, but the actual games should still be filled with drama and excitement.
