The Miami Dolphins currently have one of the best overall players in the league playing wide receiver for them in speedster Tyreek Hill.

However, Hill has been dealing with a recent hand injury.

Head coach Mike McDaniel gave an update on Hill’s status as the team inches closer to another preseason game this weekend.

“Tyreek could practice today…From a medical standpoint, you’re just trying to let something cool down so you don’t have something happen at the expense of regular-season games…He’s been very active,” McDaniel said in front of reporters today.

Mike McDaniel on Tyreek Hill’s hand injury: “I’m really good at thumb war, he lost… Tyreek could practice today, however, there’s also times that because of the timing of where their bodies are at, kind of puts them at risk to get further injury.” (@MiamiDolphins) #GoFins pic.twitter.com/HRHSdWPRwh

It is very fair to say that Hill is one of the most valuable non-quarterbacks in the history of the game.

His ability to lose defenders and stretch the field with his blazing 4.2 speed is extremely rare.

If the Dolphins were to lose the former Super Bowl champion due to injury for an extended period of time, it might be a tough pill to swallow.

An eight-time Pro-Bowler and a member of the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team, Hill has recorded at least 75 receptions and over 1,000 yards in six of the last seven seasons.

In fact, at age 29, he led the league in receiving yards (1,799) and touchdown catches (13), in addition to tying his career-high in receptions with 119.

Miami has a lot of other talented skill players in 1,000-yard receiver Jaylen Waddle, former Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and Pro Bowl running back Raheem Mostert.

But there is no doubt that Hill is the most significant piece of the puzzle, and McDaniel is making the smart move by being cautious with him.
