The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking forward to the upcoming campaign, as they know they will have plenty at stake.

That’s why they won’t take any unnecessary risks during the preseason.

With that in mind, HC Mike Tomlin has all but confirmed that Russell Wilson won’t suit up for the game vs. the Houston Texans.

As reported by Brooke Pryor, veterans Patrick Queen and Minkah Fitzpatrick will join Wilson on the sidelines, as they’re all dealing with minor training camp injuries.

Russell Wilson will NOT play vs. Texans, neither will Minkah Fitzpatrick or Patrick Queen. Mike Tomlin mentions they’ve been dealing with minor training camp injuries.

Wilson’s situation will be something to keep a close eye on.

It’s not just that calf injuries are tricky but also that every single day he’s not out there is a day that Justin Fields gets an opportunity to show Arthur Smith and Tomlin what he can do.

The Steelers needed to revamp their quarterback situation, and they brought in two players with a lot to prove and a huge chip on their shoulders to do so.

Reports from training camp have stated that Fields has been very impressive thus far, and he seems to have developed a strong chemistry with George Pickens, their WR1.

Wilson is expected to be the starter, at least for the start of the season, but he was far from his usual self in the two seasons after leaving the Seattle Seahawks, and that will continue to be a concern for this organization.

It wouldn’t be the first time that an injury costs a veteran his starting job in favor of a hungrier youngster.
