The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to have a tough task trying to compete with the rest of the AFC North as the Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore Ravens, and Cleveland Browns all boast strong rosters.
The Steelers for a long time were a powerhouse in the division, though that has changed in recent years as the other teams have gotten better and improved at important positions.
Quarterback in particular is a glaring deficit for Pittsburgh as Cincinnati, Baltimore, and Cleveland feature Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Deshaun Watson, respectively.
Head coach Mike Tomlin is counting on former first-round pick Kenny Pickett to lead the offense in his second year with the team.
Pickett took over midway through the 2022 season and showed some flashes of what he could do, though there were clear areas of improvement.
So far, though, Tomlin has been impressed with how Pickett’s grown as a player via The Rich Eisen Show.
Tomlin talks about Pickett growing into his own as a natural leader on the team because he plays quarterback.
The Steelers head coach admits that the quarterback is the heartbeat of any team and so he’s been proud of Pickett assuming that role and really embracing it over the offseason.
Tomlin also mentions that Pickett’s grown more comfortable being vocal with his teammates as well as not being afraid to show his emotions on the field.
Pittsburgh has always been a competitive team under Tomlin and with his guidance and Pickett’s development they could very well end up being a sleeper team.
