The Los Angeles Angels are having themselves an enjoyable 2023 season.
With Shohei Ohtani set to enter free agency at the end of the year, the Angels find themselves right in the thick of the postseason race as we enter the month of July.
Many around the game are predicting that Ohtani will receive a record contract with whichever team signs him this winter.
However, his teammate, Mike Trout thinks that there’s a bit more to it than the money.
On the MLB podcast “Foul Territory,” Trout discussed what it’s going to take for the Halos to keep Ohtani and why he is confident that the Angels will ultimately be able to retain him.
“The biggest thing to keep him here is to get to the playoffs. … I’m gonna do everything I can to make him stay.”@MikeTrout on his pitch to get Shohei Ohtani to stay with the @Angels https://t.co/nIvRskh8Oe pic.twitter.com/o0L8Cy5JtM

Trout believes that the best way for the Angels to keep Ohtani around is to win and reach the postseason for the first time since 2014.
The veteran slugger praised his Angels teammates and discussed the strong bond the players have with each other.
He also said that Ohtani is currently enjoying being a part of the Halos this season and is thriving in their environment.
Trout stated that he would do everything in his power to keep the two-way star in Southern California.
The three-time MVP then pointed out the fact that teams are likely going to be offering him a large sum of money for his next contract, but stated that in his mind, winning and getting to the postseason may be enough to convince Ohtani that good things are happening with the Angels, resulting in him staying.
