Mike Vrabel Sparks Speculation On Future Titans’ Backup QB

The Tennessee Titans have been one of the more competitive teams in the AFC since Mike Vrabel took over as head coach.

Vrabel has been one of the best at maximizing the talent on the roster, though the 2023 season represents a different challenge as the rest of the AFC has only gotten better.

The Titans will be rolling out largely the same team, with Ryan Tannehill once again slated to resume his role as the starting quarterback.

The backup role, though, could be an interesting story to watch as Tennessee has both Malik Willis and Will Levis waiting in the wings.

Willis got a chance to start in 2022 after Tannehill went down to injury, but the then-rookie struggled to put together cohesive drives.

However, Willis looked impressive in the Titans’ preseason game against the New England Patriots though Mike Vrabel would still like to see more out of him via Titans Radio.

“Loved the way he competed,” Vrabel said. “Got to eliminate the mistakes though.”

Willis had a rollercoaster performance as he passed for 211 yards and two touchdowns though he also threw two interceptions.

Young quarterbacks are going to go through plenty of up-and-down performances, though Willis does have the tools to succeed at the professional level.

While he is currently projected to win the No. 2 role over Levis, Willis still has to prove he is worthy of the spot.

Vrabel is not afraid to make tough decisions and although Tennesee has invested in Willis’ development Levis could very well end up winning the job by the end of the regular season.
