The Dallas Cowboys lost one of the best defensive coordinators in the game, letting Dan Quinn go to coach their divisional rivals.
With Quinn now in charge of the Washington Commanders, Jerry Jones turned to a familiar face who also had head coaching experience, hiring Mike Zimmer.
Zimmer coached the Minnesota Vikings for eight seasons, and while his playoff record wasn’t particularly impressive, his team played well above .500 more often than not.
That’s why he wants to clear his name.
Zimmer was reportedly livid at the fact that the Vikings had fired him, up to the point where he didn’t want to address his players to let them know.
So, as soon as he got an opportunity to redeem himself, he didn’t hesitate to take it:
Zimmer had never been fired in the NFL before, and he found out how ruthless of a business it is.
It’s never about what you did in the past but about what you can do in the present and the future.
Even Bill Belichick was fired at one point, and multiple teams in the league didn’t even express any sort of interest in hiring him, which speaks volumes about how much hard work a coach needs to put in to stay relevant.
Notably, Zimmer made the right choice.
Mike McCarthy should enter the season on the hot seat after the Cowboys suffered one of the most — if not the most — humiliating playoff losses in franchise history, and Zimmer could be a suitable replacement.
