Thanks to a dreadful season, the likes of which has not taken place since the 1990s, the St. Louis Cardinals were clear sellers at the trade deadline.

They shipped off players on expiring contracts such as Jordan Montgomery, Chris Stratton, Jordan Hicks, Paul DeJong, and Jack Flaherty.

Montgomery and Stratton were both traded to the Texas Rangers, from whom the Cardinals received a haul of top prospects.

One such prospect is pitcher Tekoah Roby.

On 101 ESPN, a local St. Louis sports radio station, Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs discussed what Roby brings to the table for St. Louis and how he impacts the team’s future.

Longenhagen compared Roby to Houston Astros pitcher Hunter Brown, saying that Roby is like a less physical version of the Astros hurler.

The young right-hander isn’t quite an ace pitcher yet, and Logenhagen believes that he doesn’t quite have the body of such a pitcher.

However, the FanGraphs analyst discussed Roby’s fastball and how it can be a viable tool for the young right-hander.

Logenhagen also believes that Roby’s breaking pitches, such as his changeup, have come a long way in the past year, and he even referred to him as what Jack Leiter was supposed to be when the latter was originally drafted by the Rangers.

The Cardinals certainly loaded up on young pitching prospects to replenish their minor league system, which had become somewhat depleted in terms of arms.

Longenhagen stated that as far as prospects are concerned, Roby was the best pitcher that was moved this year at the trade deadline.
