Heading into the offseason, the St. Louis Cardinals had two major holes they wanted to fill after the retirements of Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina.

They wanted to add a new catcher and another bat.

They essentially found both in Willson Contreras, but fans were hoping for some more offensive firepower and a little pitching help.

As it turns out, that offensive firepower was right in their system, as Jordan Walker burst onto the scene with an impressive spring training and ultimately earned a spot on the Opening Day roster.

On MLB Network, analysts Adnan Virk, Mike Lowell, and Carlos Pena discussed what Walker brings to the table for St. Louis.

Virk spoke first and discussed how Walker belongs with the Cardinals.

His power and his strong spring training ultimately earned Walker a spot with the big-league club.

Lowell chimed in and took note of the fact that the top prospect and Rookie of the Year candidate is still only 20 years old.

Lowell also discussed how the Cardinals have a lot of options in the outfield with Lars Nootbaar, Tyler O’Neill, and Dylan Carlson, noting that it’s clear the team sees something in Walker that they like.

Moises Gomez, Alec Burleson, Juan Yepez, and Oscar Mercado are also in the system.

Pena predicted that with Walker in the mix, the Cardinals may have an opportunity to rest certain players, but also said that this is ultimately the perfect scenario for the Cardinals, who have an explosive lineup that is prepared to do a lot of damage in 2023.
