When crazy things happen in Major League Baseball, we often hear people repeat the common statement that is used to chalk up why things are the way they are.
“That’s baseball.”
And everybody knows that in baseball, strange things can happen.
Often times, it isn’t how those who made their predictions drew it up.
But nine games into the 2023 MLB season, we’re going to have an exciting matchup between two first-place teams.
However, it isn’t who we might have expected.
The Milwaukee Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks will square off in a three-game series starting on Monday.
Milwaukee is ahead of everybody else in the NL Central, while the D’Backs are tied with the San Diego Padres for first place in the NL West.
On Twitter, MLB insider Bob Nightengale noted just how crazy baseball can be by describing the upcoming matchup.
Just the way the schedule-makers drew it up:

While the Diamondbacks at least own a share of first place in the NL West, most people were expecting the Los Angeles Dodgers to be their biggest threat as of now.
It is still early, but Arizona has surprised a lot of people thus far.
As far as the NL Central goes, the St. Louis Cardinals were widely considered to be the favorites.
However, it’s the Brewers who have gotten off to a hot start and the Cards who are now languishing in last place.
Granted, the Brewers do have a strong starting rotation that features Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Freddy Peralta.
But it still isn’t how everybody had drawn it up.
We should be in for an exciting matchup.
