The New York Yankees certainly made waves this week after announcing a new sponsorship deal that includes an insurance company appearing on the sleeve of their uniform.
The vast majority of the baseball universe and Yankees fans are against the patch being displayed on the uniform.
However, it’s something that will give the Yanks a lot of money over the years.
MLB insider Bob Nightengale offered some details about the new deal.
Starr Insurance will pay close to $190 million through 2030, averaging $25 million a year beginning next season, according to Nightengale.
The team must have been very happy with Starr Insurance because they turned down more lucrative offers to stay with it.
“The Yankees had a company willing to spend nearly $35 million a year but passed. It’s the richest corporate sponsorship patch in MLB,” he tweeted.

The name of the company that the Yanks turned down wasn’t reported.
Many fans have stated on social media that $25 million per year is not worth putting a patch on the Yankees uniform, but it’s definitely not an insignificant sum.
What fans would love to see would be an increase in payroll and investment in star players: the right star players, to be more specific.
For now, they have taken a popularity hit after announcing their latest sponsorship deal, but if it results in an increased payroll and an eventual return to the World Series, supporters surely won’t complain as much.
The next step for the modern Yankees would be getting rid of their obsolete facial hair policy.
That way, they would be really keeping up with modern times in all fronts.
