The Seattle Mariners may have been sellers at the trade deadline this year, but they have now proven that they are still a force to be reckoned with in the American League West.

On Thursday, they rallied from a late deficit against the Los Angeles Angels, winning on a go-ahead grand slam by rookie Cade Marlowe.

The Mariners held on for a key 5-3 victory over the Halos.

In fact, despite their selling strategy at the deadline, they have been playing some solid baseball.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Mariners own a record of 19-10 since July 1 and are tied with the Baltimore Orioles for the best record in baseball since that date.

They also have a top-5 pitching staff by ERA.

The Mariners won last night on a 9th-inning grand slam by rookie Cade Marlowe.

Seattle (19-10) is tied with Baltimore for *the best record in baseball* since July 1.

Sounds like a playoff team to me. @MLBNetwork

Morosi notes that he believes the Mariners are a postseason team.

With their win over the Angels, they improved to 57-52 on the season and created a little distance in the AL West between themselves and the Halos.

In fact, they are now tied with the New York Yankees in the Wild Card race, sitting just 2.5 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays for the third and final Wild Card spot in the American League.

Seattle has some solid arms in their rotation, including Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, Bryce Miller, and Bryan Woo.

They have won seven of their last 10 and have also won back-to-back games.

Even an AL West title isn’t quite out of reach for them, as they sit six games behind the Texas Rangers for the top spot.
